Boiler Fault Finder

Start with the symptom and work through one check at a time, following the boiler's sequence of operation. Each step shows the LCL manual pages to read.

Smell gas or CO alarm sounding? Stop. Turn off the gas at the ECV, open doors and windows, don't use electrical switches or naked flames, get everyone out and call the Gas Emergency Service from outside on 0800 111 999 (Northern Ireland 0800 002 001; LPG: your supplier). For CO, turn appliances off and get medical advice. Follow GIUSP.

A training and thinking aid for domestic boilers. Learners must only work on gas appliances under the direct supervision of a Gas Safe registered engineer (GSIUR Reg 3). It does not replace the manufacturer's instructions, diagnostic charts or your own judgement. Always isolate safely before working on electrical parts.
